This page has been created to give Summerfield Members insight into how the board is managing our stormwater issues. With the ever-increasing growth within this region of Horry County, our homeowners continue to face the continued risk of flooded properties. To date, we have been fortunate that the increasing threat of flood water has not entered any dwellings within our community. With the continued population growth and more homes and communities being constructed all around us, the threat will only increase. In addition to the population explosion, the developers of Summerfield left us with a less-than-adequate drainage system, one that was never approved by the Horry County Building Dept.
STEPS TOWARDS DECREASED FLOODING THREAT
One of the most important tasks of any board is to serve to protect our community property values. Protecting all of our homes is beneficial to our entire community. With the promise to find a solution to our increased flooding issues, your BOD has motioned to contract with Venture Engineering to discover and plan a solution for our internal drainage systems. In addition, Venture Engineering will also be evaluating the external stormwaters intruding upon our community and working on our behalf to resolve those issues. There will be multiple steps and associated costs as we work towards a meaningful solution to a reduction of stormwaters encroaching on Summerfield properties.
- Phase1: Discovery; Contracted with Venture Engineering to perform a Study to evaluate the following:
- Evaluate the current conditions of Summerfield’s internal drainage.
- Evaluate external stormwaters encroaching onto Summerfield properties.
- Evaluate the external outflow drainage systems that move our stormwaters out of our community.
- Contact HC Stormwater and HCDOT to correct the drainage issue on Hwy 90 and Monaca Dr.
- Develop a sustainable plan to correct Summerfield’s internal drainage systems.
- Phase II: Plan for correction of Summerfield’s internal drainage systems.
- Develop a plan for construction phases to defer expenses.
- Community approval to proceed with the project.
- Solicit contractors for the bidding process.
- Initiate construction plan as determined by the current BOD.
